My story

I joined A-Plan 12 years ago with no real insurance knowledge. My progression went from trainee, to gaining my CII qualifications within 6 months, to then being promoted as a branch senior within a large branch, then on to an assistant manager in a new branch opening. Within 2 years of the branch opening I was fortunate enough to be promoted to manager. From an initial team of 4, I now have a team of 19. Throughout my time at A-Plan, opportunities to progress within the company have always been available.

Training is always available at A-Plan. From my very first day I was supported by a more senior member of staff whilst completing various internal training modules to develop my insurance knowledge. This was followed by gaining my CII qualification which was funded by the company and helped build further confidence, especially when interacting with clients. I went on to complete A-Plan’s ‘Aspire management course’ which gave me a greater understanding to management life. I’ve constantly received advice and mentoring throughout my career.

What attracted you to A-Plan?

I already knew of people within the business and how they had forged themselves a career. I don’t think anyone leaves school thinking “I want to be an Insurance broker” however I did want a career not just a job this was very apparent at interview stage of can be achieved. A-Plan have a fantastic model of promoting within for the right individual. I was willing to work hard for that and reap te rewards thereafter.

What is your working environment like?

Shirley is a vibrant, proactive and professional branch with client care at the core of all we do. I have been the manager in Shirley for the last 7 years and it’s important that we enjoy what we do. The whole team get on and we often socialise outside of work. As a business we have high standards and it’s important my team are likewise. All of my team care about the business and enjoy looking after the client’s needs.

What made you stay with A-Plan?

Everything that has been promised to me has been delivered on the back of my work and commitment to the role. Throughout my A Plan career, in every position held I have received constant support from my very first line manager through to the Chief Executive. I have been made to feel a valued employee and apart of the ‘A-Plan family’.

Describe the A-Plan culture

Client care is top of the list with the service we provide our ‘shop window’ for continued growth of the business. We pride ourselves on our reputation within the industry and relationships with our insurer partners which assists further to help care for the complete insurance needs of the client. In addition, continued development of my team members provides further strength – the people are the business!
